YOUR JOURNEY BEGINS HERE.

Grandview Dance Academy classes are offered for all ages from Early Childhood through 12th grade. All students have the opportunity to participate in dance, regardless of ability; however, there are higher-level opportunities for students who excel in dance.

Elementary Dance Program

All Early Childhood through 3rd grade students participate in a weekly dance class. Though the focus of each class varies with age, elementary dance students are exposed to different techniques, forms, and styles of dance including jazz, modern, creative movement, ballet, African, partnering, and musical theatre. Yoga is also an important component, with students learning stretches that promote strength, coordination, flexibility, and balance; and breathing techniques that help children to focus while promoting self-control. Yoga builds self-esteem, self-confidence, and increases overall body awareness. All students perform in the annual Dance Concert.

Fusion

Fusion is the middle school performing arts company open to all 6th through 8th grade students as an elective. The Fusion course familiarizes the student with techniques, forms, and styles of dance including jazz, modern, lyrical, African, ballet, partnering, and musical theatre. Different choreographic styles and the Language of Dance is also a primary focus. Yoga is also an important component, with students learning stretches that promote strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, overall body awareness, and breathing techniques that help to increase concentration. The year culminates with the students choreographing their own small group dances. Currently, the Fusion dancers perform in the annual Dance Concert, at Grandview Preparatory School events, and around the South Florida community.

Broadway Bound

Broadway Bound is the high school performing arts company open to all 9th though 12th grade students as an elective. Broadway Bound is a rigorous dance course that familiarizes the student with techniques, forms, and styles of dance in musical theatre, lyrical, jazz, ballet, and modern. The course covers material from the 1920's to the present with different choreographic styles, such as those of Jerome Robbins, Bob Fosse, and Michael Bennett. Yoga is also an important component, with students learning stretches that promote strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, overall body awareness, and breathing techniques that help to increase concentration. Currently, the Broadway Bound dancers perform in the annual Dance Concert, at Grandview Preparatory School events, and around the South Florida community.

Musical Theatre

An audition-only course open to 4th and 5th grade students in the Spring Semester, who were also enrolled in a dance and/or music course during the Fall Semester. These students participate in the annual spring musical theatre performance.

Senior Dance Team

The Senior Dance Team is a select performance group open to high school students by audition only.

Junior Dance Team

The Junior Dance Team is a select performance group open to middle school students by audition only.

Dance Honor Societies

Grandview has petitioned the National Junior Honor Society for Dance Arts and the National Honor Society for Dance Arts for the privilege of chartering two Honor Society Chapters. The Grandview Dance Academy has been determined to meet the standards required by the governing board of the Honor Society, and the chapters were founded in 2011. Membership in this national organization is not only a reward for the fine work of the program, but further evidence of the chapter’s desire to continue to inspire others through dance. Candidates are deemed eligible for induction based upon their dedication to dance, academic achievement, and service to others.
