The Grandview Dance Academy’s Private Lesson Program provides a unique opportunity for students to pursue their goals in dance. The program is by audition only, and is open to 5th through 12th grade students who are interested in furthering their dance training. The students have the option of focusing their training in ballet, jazz, modern, or musical theatre dance. For more information, please click on the link.
Elementary Division Dance Program: All Pre-Kindergarten through 4th grade Grandview Preparatory School students take dance class once a week during the school day. Elementary dance students are exposed to different techniques, forms, and styles of dance including jazz, modern, creative movement, ballet, African, and musical theatre. Different choreographic styles and the Language of Dance is also a primary focus. The focus of each class varies with age.
6th Grade Dance: All 6th grade students take dance for one semester as a requirement for their skills wheel class. Skills wheel exposes 6th grade students to physical education, humanities, and digital citizenship courses throughout the year.
Dance Club: The Grandview Dance Club is open to all 5th and 6th grade students as an elective, meeting once a week during the school day. Dance club students are exposed to different techniques, forms, and styles of dance including jazz, modern, ballet, and musical theatre. Different choreographic styles and the Language of Dance is also a primary focus.
Fusion: Fusion is the middle school performing arts company open to all 7th and 8th grade students as an elective, meeting three times a week during the school day. The Fusion course familiarizes the student with techniques, forms, and styles of dance including jazz, modern, and musical theatre. Different choreographic styles and the Language of Dance is also a primary focus.
Broadway Bound: Broadway Bound is the high school performing arts company open to all 9th though 12th grade students as an elective, meeting three times a week during the school day. The Broadway Bound course familiarizes the student with techniques, forms, and styles of dance in musical theatre, jazz, ballet, and modern. The course covers material from the 1920's to the present. The Language of Dance and choreographic styles, such as those of Jerome Robbins, Bob Fosse, and Michael Bennett, are also a primary focus.
Musical Theatre: The Musical Theatre course is open to 6th through 12th grade students who are also enrolled in another dance course (Dance Club, Fusion, or Broadway Bound). These students learn both the choreography and vocals to musical theatre pieces. The course is co-taught by Ms. Petronio and Mr. Yannette, Director of Music.
Yoga:The middle school and upper school Yoga courses will familiarize the student with both Vinyasa and Yin yoga. Vinyasa is breath synchronized yoga - connecting asanas (poses) with pranayama (breath) - using vigorous flows of postures to warm the body, focus the mind, increase flexibility, and build strength and stamina. Yin yoga is a strong passive practice where postures are held for two to six minutes, stretching the connective tissues of the body.
Grandview Community Dance:Grandview Community Dance is an open level ongoing six-week course open to all parents Grandview Preparatory School students and adults in the Boca Raton community. The style of dance varies with each session depending on interest. Styles can include jazz, modern, ballet, musical theatre dance, yoga, and stretch & strengthen.
The rate for the six-week session is $72 ($12/class) for once-a-week or discounted price of $135 for twice-a-week if paid on the first day. 100% of the proceeds go directly to building the dance program. If you are interested, come and try a class!
Grandview Dance Company: The Grandview Dance Company is a select dance group open to 7th through 12th grade students by invitation only. All company members are required to take 2-3 weekly dance classes and attend additional rehearsals. Currently, the Dance Company performs at Grandview Preparatory School events, around the South Florida community (Boca Raton, Delray, and West Palm Beach), and at professional dance competitions.
