What is your favorite Grandview memory?
My favorite memories of Grandview have to be the times spent playing sports. From that first ever Grandview football game to the opening basketball game in the brand new gym. I will always remember the football team we had with only thirteen players, with some players still in middle school. We never gave up and played every game until the end. Grandview gave everyone who wanted to play a sport the opportunity to do so and when I look back I am thankful to have gotten the chance to play, a chance I may not have received at another school. GO PRIDE!!!
Is there a teacher who made a big impact on your time at GPS?
One teacher who made a big impact on my time at Grandview is Mr. Jett. He was a big part of getting us ready for college and making sure we went through the process in a timely manner. He made sure we learned what we needed to learn, but always understood when we bent the rules in an attempt to have a little fun. He showed us that it is possible to be strict and responsible but still have good time.
What was your favorite Grandview tradition?
My favorite Grandview tradition is the candle lighting ceremony, which is held prior to graduation every year. If I remember correctly, we were the first class to pass on the light to the upcoming junior class and I am not sure we knew the significance of the ceremony back then. Now that I look back, it is a tradition that I am happy to see is still alive. At Grandview, students from all grades become close with one another like a family, and the senior class tends to be the leader of that family. The passing of the light passes on this opportunity to lead to the upcoming junior class and carry it forward for the next year. In my mind, with each passing there is a little bit of every class left behind, going back to my class.
What have you been doing since graduation?
After Grandview I enrolled at the University of Central Florida where I graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science Business Administration-Finance. While at UCF I was involved in Student Government as a Student Senator and joined the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. During this time I also obtained my Florida Real Estate Brokers license and enjoyed a successful career in real estate sales from 2005-2008. Currently, I am at UCF full time finishing a second bachelor in Accounting and starting the Master of Science in Accounting program.
In my time off I enjoy traveling and last year traveled to Italy and Jamaica. I spent a week in Jamaica and three weeks in Italy. I traveled through the northern half of Italy stopping in the major cities of Rome, Florence, Bologna, and Venice. However, I also found to time to visit some of the smaller cities in Tuscany like Lucca, Pisa, and Siena. My favorite part of the trip was the food.
Is there anything else you would like us to know about you?
Yes! Last year I got engaged to my beautiful fiancé Roslyn and we are getting married January 2011. Roslyn and I met at UCF during Homecoming 2004 when her sorority (Delta Delta Delta) and my fraternity paired up for the events during homecoming week. We were introduced by Grandview alum Adreanna LaCandia.
