Grandview’s goal to go from “red, white and blue” to green in 2020 has resulted in several top honors from the Green Schools Recognition Program at Florida Atlantic University’s Pine Jog Environmental Education Center.
The Program announced its 2020 Green Schools Awards virtually this May honoring the many incredible teachers, students, school leaders, and community members that made the program possible at 134 schools earning recognition this year.
Honors included over 20 Judges’ Choice Awards, Green Principal, Teacher, Student, and Facilities & Food Service Staff of the Year Awards, as well as the Top Green Schools of 2020.
This year, Grandview Preparatory School received recognitions as a:
· 2020 Green School of Quality for our efforts to develop a culture of environmental stewardship and sustainability at school. Grandview is proud to have moved up one level from 2019.
· Top 5 Finalist for Green Teacher of the Year for Donna Leech. Earlier this year, Mrs. Leech also received the honor of becoming a National Geographic certified educator.
· Best Green Schools Video: Secondary Education Award, which also came with a monetary gift of $250. This honor is awarded to a school that did an outstanding job explaining their green school story in an especially fun and creative way at the secondary level. You can watch the video created by our 6th grade class HERE.
A special thank you to Mrs. Leech, Matt Muzzarelli and Rosita Darden as well as all the students, especially recent graduate Denis Ziegler, who spearheaded our 2020 Green Schools Campaign to instill a more eco-friendly culture on Grandview’s campus. Congratulations!
