Students to be Honored at Prestigious Award Ceremony in Washington, DC on May 3rd
Boca Raton, (May 1, 2018) – Grandview Preparatory School is proud to announce that three of its Upper School students, Katherine Berlatsky ‘18, Hunter Davis ‘18 and Elizabeth Buckley ‘21, will receive a tremendous honor in Washington, DC this week from the Young Justice Nerds, through a collaboration of the Center for Policing Equity (CPE) and Google for Education. Earning First Runner-Up in the CPE’s first-ever Young Justice Nerds Awards competition, their student project was selected out of many submissions from high school and college students nationwide.
To be eligible for the award, students (with the help of an advisor/mentor/teacher) submitted written materials and a video essay regarding how they are using science and technology to improve the criminal justice system. Berlatsky, Davis and Buckley will be honored in Washington, DC on Thursday, May 3rd at a ceremony at the Fairmont Hotel, in addition to an awards dinner at the United States Institute of Peace in the evening. The events will bring together thought leaders, advocates, elected officials, celebrities, and tastemakers to honor leading organizations, partners, and stakeholders who are committed to justice in criminal justice reform and policing.
“We are extremely proud of our students and look forward to seeing how they will work to change our world for the better as they graduate from Grandview and further their education and passions,” said Samuel Berey, Director of Global Innovation & Expeditionary Learning at Grandview Preparatory School.
The goal of the Center for Policing Equity and Google for Education is to lift up the passions, genius, and inspiration young people have for justice. By highlighting the amazing talents of young people from around the country, the CPE also demonstrates how children’s brilliance utilizing science, technology, and justice can work together for community uplift.
