Your Home Away from Home
The initial introduction to school is an extraordinary milestone for children and has the opportunity to instill a love of learning for a lifetime. At Grandview, our youngest learners spend their days learning through play in an age-appropriate manner. We foster a nurturing environment that emphasizes joy, compassion, and growth with an introduction to a broadrange of subject areas; Spanish, PE, music, art, science, dance, and Pride. In the same way that the 5 C's provide the foundation for our older students, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and character are all active pillars of the early childhood experience.
A Deeper Dive
The Early Childhood program is a research-based, student-centered program designed to engage the learner within a nurturing atmosphere. Students develop foundational skills as they deepen their understanding of themselves and the world around them. Inquiry-based structures with an emphasis on choice allow for individual development and achievement. Grandview's curriculum focuses on 1) creating a caring community of learners through social-emotional learning 2) providing play-based experiences designed to enhance brain development 3) exposing students to the arts 4) providing regular child-directed outdoor play and movement 5) implementing age-appropriate explicit and play-based instruction to address development in multiple domains including cognition, communication, fine and gross motor skills, and social-emotional skills. Additionally, Grandview’s early childhood program philosophy reflects the importance of engaging in reciprocal partnerships with families and observing, documenting, and assessing an individual student’s development and learning.
